{"id":469,"date":"2014-06-18T14:42:44","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T13:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lloydstock.com\/blog\/?p=469"},"modified":"2014-07-09T16:44:31","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T15:44:31","slug":"the-patriarchs-abraham-calling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lloydstock.com\/blog\/?p=469","title":{"rendered":"The Patriarchs: Abraham &#8211; Calling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the next few weeks we will exploring the highs and lows of these great men and their families.<\/p>\n<p>The weeks on Abraham will\u00a0be broken down\u00a0as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calling<\/li>\n<li>Covenant<\/li>\n<li>Crises<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Calling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Genesis 12:1-9<br \/>\nWe can learn the following from Abrahams calling:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>We must be interested in God speaking. <\/em>Abraham believed God and righteousness was accounted to him as a result.\u00a0It is possible to live our lives disinterested with God&#8217;s purposes, direction and will for us. But there is great blessing in listening for and submitting to His calling.<\/li>\n<li><em>We must discern when God speaks<\/em> (and when he does not). Some of God&#8217;s directives for us are clearly detailed in His Word. Others are perhaps less clear &#8211; we derive a simple understanding from biblical principles but are left to walk in faith beyond that. We therefore need to be in constant touch with God through His Word and through prayer in order to discern His calling. Some of us are inclined to rush, others to procrastinate &#8211; we must both subject ourselves to God&#8217;s timing.<\/li>\n<li><em>We must obey when God speaks<\/em>. It is more unpleasant to be outside of God&#8217;s Will than to be outside of our comfort zone. For Abraham, leaving Ur meant leaving the comforts of the extended family, the material and technological advances of his civilisation and the &#8216;walk by sight&#8217; lifestyle. But\u00a0to disobey God&#8217;s calling would be far worse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the next few weeks we will exploring the highs and lows of these great men and their families.
